I have XP installed on my c:, i reinstalled it onto my d: ( which is a different physical drive) and now i want to remove the c: (physical drive) and boot xp off my d: ( which i want to change to c: ) when i put xp on the d:, there were no boot.ini files on it, and i cant get it to boot w/o loading the boot manager from my existing xp install (the one i dont want) how do i install a boot manager onto the new XP install ( d: ) so i can get rid of the old hd?

You cannot change the drive letters without formating. But you can change which drive to boot off of. In bios, all you have to do is select to boot from hdd1 not hdd0.

That should do it.

edit: but im not sure if you need to mess with the hdd jumpers in the back:confused:

Win XP starts on the primary/secondary master/slave, and not on the "boot disk". I mean it still boot from the boot disk (as declared in BIOS) but the "c:" drive is not necessarily the boot partition on the boot disk.
You should then change jumpers and so on. But it might be a easier solution, even if I am not aware of it.
