how do i change the icon for jpg's gif's etc...

im looking to change the defualt icons for when u make a jpg and stuff. but i dont know what .dll file has them. i dont want to use a icon changer prog. id rather replace the .dll file that has them or use resource hacker.

what OS? In windows 2000 it is in tools | folder options | File Types | Advanced

Well, normally it shows the icon of the program associated with the Jpeg and Gif file, e.g. ACDsee. Do you want to change the program itself?

im using XP. my bad sorry about that. with SP1


it looks like this right now, linky

i want to change it to something else. i was able to change the little blue image im the middle of the icon, but i cant change the icon itself.

Everything is found under Control Panel -> Folder Options -> File Types. The icon and program association.

ok thats. great. i found the file. the only thing is that it sets the .jpg .gif and .bmp all to the same icon. oh well. i was going to try to make each diff, but this will do. thanks!

Tools => Folder Options => File Types => Select the file type, in this case gif => click on the Advanced button below => click on 'Change Icon' and select the icon file you want to use
