How do I change the FSB for my P2 300 ?

This question is similar to a previous question, so forgive my ignorance. I also have a Dell XPS D300 ... and want to overclock. A previous topic discussed this... and suggested changing the FSB from 66 to 75, and if lucky to 83Mhz. I see no reference to FSB in manuals. There is a jumper on the motherboard to enter a maintenance mode, which allows to change the processor speed from 133 up to 366. (with a warning of damage to processor). Is this the same as the FSB?

I cant find a refernce 'softmenu' that allows to view or change the chip multiplier or FSB.

The chip I have has this posted on it......

PII MMX 80522PX300512EC SL2HA R7480316-195 (Phillipines)

This is my BIOS: 4A4LL0X0.10A.0035.P10 (A09)
Is there a softmenu for this bios?

An SL2HA will only reach 337 reasonably.

Considering that you have a Dell D300, they use Intel Atlanta AL440LX motherboards. There are no FSB changing options on that motherboard; the CPU multiplier is limited to 4.5 as well, so the only way you can overclock that processor is to buy a new motherboard.

FSB is the Front Side Bus...the frequency the motherboard sends to the processor. Multiplier is an internal multiplier on the CPU that multiplies the FSB signal to get the CPU frequency, ie a multiplier of 4.5 and an FSB of 66 gives you your processor speed of 300.

LMAO
that is my luck ....

Ok .... so ... Has anyone changed the motherboard in one of these systems? If I do, what are the chances will I need to replace any components?

256 MB SDRAM
2x IDE DVD CD ROM
Altec Lansing ACS 495 USB speaker sys
Creative Labs AWE64 ISA sound card
Iomega ZIP EIDE drive
8.4GB EIDE Ultra ATA HD
PCI DVD Decoder card
PCI card for Microtech scanner
and a new Voodoo 5500 graphics card
(also card for Cable modem supplied by ISP)

(all my slots are full) hehe

If this looks upgradable .... any suggestions on a new motherboard?
Or ... LOL ... is it easier IF should I get a New PC?

if it's a dell system then you might have to buya new case, different power supply, but I'm not sure, ask someone that has one and upgraded it and try before you buy

You should be able to keep most of it, depending on what you want to spend. At the very least, if you wanted an increase in speed, you will have to change the motherboard, or change the processor. I think you have a few options.

You can keep the whole lot, and see if your motherboard supports Celeron IIs....not very sure about the Atlanta board, but I think it is doubtful.

A number of the Dell machines have proprietary power connectors, so you may have to get a new case as well as a new motherboard. Check 1st. If you still have money left over after changing these items, you might want to look into getting a faster processor, possibly a Celeron II or a Coppermine Pentium III and overclocking them.
