How do I change the behavior of how a window opens?

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but I've searched these forums, Microsoft's website, Windows help, and I can't find an answer. Recently, when I open a web page in a new window, the new window stacks below and to the right of the previous window which places the bottom of the window below the taskbar. I can't figure out what I did to cause this change. In the past, a new window would open at the same height as the original, and I wouldn't have to drag it up a quarter of an inch.

If anyone could tell me how to change it back to the way it was, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Try this, drag the new window to the position you want then resize it to the shape you want. Next close all OTHER open windows. Maximize the "new" window. Now open a new window from a link.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm still having no luck. When I press Ctrl-N or click the IE icon in the taskbar, I still get stacked windows. I don't know what I've done because it didn't used to work this way.
