Where does Half-Life store the CD-key? I think I may have entered it wrong and want to check.
In the Windows registry. To check the current key value, run regedit and look for the "key" entry at Hkey_Current_User/Software/Valve/HalfLife/Settings. Except for the hyphens, it should match the 13-digit number on the back of your Half-Life CD case in the form XXXX-XXXXX-XXXX The hyphens should not be in the registry.
If that makes no sense to you, try this:
1. start->run
2. enter "regedit"
3. click the little plus by Hkey_Current_User
4. click the little plus by Software
5. click the little plus by Valve
6. click the little plus by HalfLife
7. click the word Settings
8. look in right panel, find "Key" in "Name" column
9. the 13-digit number in quotes in the "Data" column next to "Key" should match your Half-Life CD key (without hyphens)
10. if not, click on "Key" with your right mouse button and then select "Modify"
11. change the number to match your Half-Life CD key (without hyphens)
12. click ok
13. close regedit (click the "X", or select Registry->Exit from the menu)
