i have an 8Gb hard drive that is particoned in to 4 2gb drives. This is ok. the drive letters go from C to F. i have a 6 gb i want to add but it assingns its self as drive D so all of the other 3 drives change there letter and because of this all of the software installed on them won;t work.

So i NEED to know how i can change the drive letter of a drive within WIN98

Looks like you have your 6 gig drive partitioned with its 'C' drive as a bootable partition. Since its partition is bootable, Windows will automatically assign it the 'D' letter. The best solution is to fdisk the 6 gigger and make sure you dont make it a bootable drive. This will fix your problem immediately.

your "C" drive is a master drive, no matter what the partitions are ... put in another drive on the secondary channel and it will atomaticly be assigned as drive "D" ... you could mess about re-assigning the drives, but it would probably be better to fdisk & reformat with NO partitions ... won't take long to fill up 4gig

HanginOn and Muckshifter are both right. Unless you make the drive a a single partition, you'll never get the drive letters the way you want them. I use Letter Assigner also, and yes, it works great. It'll slow your boot time by about two seconds.
