How do I change AIM sounds?

How do I change the sound that my buddies hear when I sign on/off? When I look in the preferences menu of AIM all I can find is how to change the sounds I hear when my buddies sign on/off. I want to use my own sound as the sound my buddies hear when I sign on/off.

 
Navigate to X:\...\AIM\Sounds (X being the drive it's installed on). You see all the sounds you normally hear. Replace these sounds with the sounds you want, making sure that the new sounds have the exact same names: for instance, if instead of the door slamming you'd like a nuclear bomb exploding, take the audio file of the bomb (ensuring it's a .wav) and rename it to "doorslam.wav" and replace the original "doorslam.wav."

That should do the trick.
 
I tried it but it only changes the sound I hear when my buddies sign on or off. I want to change the sound my buddies hear when I sign on/off.
 
Unless the messenger program gives you some authority to do that (and I don't think it does), there's no way for you to change their sounds.
 
I know it is possible to use your own sounds because I've heard them when people sign on/off, I just dont know how.
 
depending on what versino of aim you have..

my aim > edit options > edit preferences > im/chat > [Sounds]


you will find the option you want there. if you don't, try different versions of AIM
