I signed up for a few too many back in the day. I've never used them but I heard that it's not good keeping too many open accounts. So how do I cancel the cards... and does it take more effort than just cutting it in half?

you should call them up and cancel it that way to play it safe. if you just cut up the cards the account itself might still be active. and you don't want to run the risk of having someone find out your number and abuse it.

Look on the back of the cards. There should be an 800 # for the bank. Give em a call and tell them you want to cancel. They'll probably try to tempt you to stay...free balance transfers, lower rates. Hey, how do you think I've maintained my 2.9% apr for 2 years as a student? :)

If you just cut it in half, you'll still receive statements, etc. Its just as easy to call the number as it is to find a damn pair of scissors! ;)

oh good. i thought i had to find out their address and write them a formal letter. real time voice interaction with humans frightens me!
