I'm trying to convert all of my Disney cartoons that are from the late 1980's early 90's (or older The cartoon not the tape, Duck Tales Rescue Rangers and more) But I tried two VCRS one was a good one a Sony which did not allow me to record the tape onto my computer (I'm using Sage TV and it just says ("No Signal") And I checked all of my cables and they are fine because as soon as I cancel the record the picture comes back. I tried one of my cheap Walmart (Orion) VCRS and that worked but the tape is in poor condition and I would like to use the Sony one Because it's older and handled the tape better. and overall had a better picture. So is there a software solution to do what I want? or do I need a piece of hardware? My Capture card is a Hauppauge PVR-150MCE Thanks

Typically to record the output from a VCR or any other protected composite/s-video source you are going to need a time base corrector. Essentially the output is deliberately sent out slightly out of sync in such a way that TV's and other devices will still display it accurately, however recording devices tend to have difficulty with syncing the signal.

I purchased one at my old job that was the size of a hard drive roughly, and that sucker was 350 bucks. Unless I am confused with what you are doing that should do the trick, but please dont spend that much money on my word alone :p.

You can pick up ducktails, and rescue rangers on DVD for $20 a season. I would think about just buying it for the quality vs an old VHS tape.

I'll try the coax input did not think of that the tapes are not HI-FI Stereo anyway (Says the VCR and the label on the tape, Plus my ears can tell stereo from mono)

I use my Sony vcr from the late 80s. One of the last with white-clip circuitry. Thats how macrovision works, VCR maker remove some circuitry that allowed macrovision to fubar copies.
