I have to second Suitsupply. I just got three suits from them last year and had a great experience. They are all holding up well too.

I bought a suit (rather than renting a tux) for my wedding. Got it from the Men's Wearhouse, got measured, and it wasn't too bad. A few hundred bucks. It fits great, looks great on me, and I can wear it for any formal occasion unlike a tuxedo.

I'm 6' and about 265 lbs so I'm also a big guy. They'll make sure everything fits properly and looks good on you. And you will look good, everyone looks good in a suit.

Suit Supply, Indochino, and Black Lapel. Look up all 3, pick one, profit.

I've personally used Suit Supply and Indochino, next will be from Black Lapel. SS and Indochino have been been solid though.

could you post some fit pictures of you wearing the SS's suits? I read good things about their suits.

Any chance you're in or near NYC? My tailor will be visiting from Thailand most likely the first week of March. You pick out your exact fabrics. He measures you up and you get yourself a custom suit at a very reasonable price. Obviously the more you buy, the better deal you get.

Don't have any.

Having been to Men's Warehouse and random other department stores for my suit needs previously I really think that SS is a major cut above both in service/experience and quality (for a very comparable spend). I bought three suits in the morning and they were ready for pickup after lunch.

I got fitted suit from Mens Whse when I applied for my first "IT" job back in 2001. I got the job... But, the suit was friggin expensive.

At the time I was 6'1 and about 250 pounds. Now I am a bit over 300 pounds ... Too much sitting on my ass ... though possibly in the next year or two we may be moving to a new building which supposedly has desks where you can stand and work ...

order online. or go to the goodwill, tons of suits from old dead people that might fit you, and only cost 10-20 bucks.

Doesn't anyone else think that modern suit cuts simply look like guys who are wearing suits that are too small for them? They're going to look pretty dated in pictures.

Yeah... Men's Warehouse has a good Big and Tall section. I got an awesome Sean Jean suit the last time I was there for about half price... it is totally baller :)

OP, if you have the time (~6-8 weeks), I suggest you consider the online tailor shops already mentioned in this thread. I bought a blue wool/linen suit from indochino (it was their cheapest suit at $300), and got several compliments on it from people who usually wear quite expensive suits (finance on Bay street in Toronto).

I bought a second suit from them and am also happy with it.

A $300 suit that fits properly will look better than a $1200 suit that doesn't fit.

yllus' post is also pretty dead on. A navy suit is the best bet, although I'd say charcoal is just about as good. Get a light coloured shirt (white is best, although you can get away with a light colour too... just please don't go with a dark colour or black... yech). Belt matches the shoes, and socks match the pants.
