How do I burn CD's on-the-fly with Mitsumi 32X CD-RW?

Well I got the Mitsumi 32X and installed it with Nero 5.5 that came with it on my PC (running XP). Upgraded Nero to 5.58. Installed it on the same ide cable as the CD drive (with both set to Cable Ready jumper settings). It burns audio and data CD's fine, but it gave me a warning when I tried to burn them with on-the-fly (CD to CD) option, stating something to the effect that since both CD drives were on the same IDE bus, there was a potential prob with buffer underrun so it suggested that I copy to HD and then burn the disk when making CD copies. I've been doing that with good success but I'm wondering if I switch IDE cables so that the CD-RW and HD are on one and the CD is on the other -will that make a difference? (the question may be moot since there's no way I can get both the HD and CD-RW on the same IDE Cable).

How can I get the CD-CD burn option without running into the buffer underrun problem? My rig is a Dell P4 1.8 with 40G HD, 256 Meg RDRAM, 48X CD and Cendyne (Mitsumi) 32X CD-RW drive. (This was one of the deals from Office Max last week).

Appreciate any feedback.

You can also try throttling back and burning at 16X or 12X for on the fly. The best solution is an external burner, SCSI, Firewire, or USB 2.

<< Installed it on the same ide cable as the CD drive (with both set to Cable Ready jumper settings). >>

set the CDRom as Master and the Mitsumi as Slave ..delete the two devices from your DevManager before you pull and change jumpers ..also delete Secondary IDE controller ..doing this XP will reload drivers and if your CDRom and the Mitsumi( the Mitsumi will..not sure about your unknown manufacturer Dell CDRom) are capable XP will set UDMA 2

on the moot question if you get a different IDE cable(ATA66 or better) should have plugs for 2 devices(most modern mobos support 4 devices).

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried to copy on the fly an old game CD that I had and it worked okay so it looks like its all right. But I found that I could not select Test or Test and Burn on the Copy CD selection in Nero. Is there a way to enable that? I had it the first time, but now when I open Nero burner software, it no longer offers the option. Perhaps that is because I upgraded from Nero 5.5 to 5.58?
