You are a wise man and I think you made the right choice. Religion is such a farce for me as well. Your wife kinda sucks too for not supporting your belief. Sorry if you found that offensive.

Life is sh*t if you don't put out the effort to make something out of it.

The way I see it, why NOT believe in God? If your life is sh*t right now it's gonna be a whole lot worse if your wrong.

Keep your life in context though, you've got the rest of it to live and your probably way better off than alot of people on this earth right now so quit feeling sorry for yourself, get some counseling and do whatever makes you happy.

I've been through the same thing. After ditching the religious beliefs I had when my wife and I got married there was a period where we were distant. Most of it because I'd go on long rants about how stupid religion is and how could I have ever fallen for it; which was basically critical of her beliefs, even though I wasn't trying to be.

Once I got that out of my system, we settled into a method where she has her beliefs and I have mine. She goes to church still and I stay home. She tells our son about Jesus and I tell him about Nietzsche. When he gets older he'll be a better critical thinker and can make decessions about his own beliefs. There's no reason the marriage has to end just because there's suddenly a dissonance in religious beliefs.
