How do I broadcast audio over the net?

I want to be able to listen to my scanner while at work using the internet. I have a scanner, an audio-in jack on my computer, and an ISP. I know those are essential, I just don't know the software end of things. Can this be done for free? Anyone know? I'd have Googled the answer but I wouldn't know what to even type. Thanks for any help all!

Well there are a lot of ways to go in this direction. Shoutcast, media servers, a Slingbox, etc. Google on something like "streaming media servers home use."

vlc player will do this easily.
