How do I boot into safe mode in windows with a linux bootloader?

Topic pretty much says it all. I need to get into Windows safe mode, but Mandrake's bootloader comes up, and doesn't leave me the chance to hold down F8. Is there any other option?

As soon as you hit enter at the bootloader, tap f8. This should work.

after the bootloader it goes right into the Windows screen, I tried that, but it didnt' work
