How do I block telemarketers?

Day after day this "Mitch Robinson" calls me telling me to call his 1-866 number. His machine will even leave messages if I'm not there. I already signed up for National do not call registry. I want to file a complaint to the FCC, but this guy blocks his phone number on Caller ID (which is illegal already). Any way I can trace his orginal phone number?

See if your state offers a do-not-call list also. Some do. Might not help but doesn't hurt.

If you have the number, file a complaint with FCC and/or state Attorney General. The AG's office can work wonders.

Machine calls me and tells me to call another number. Calling other number results in another machine picking up and demanding personal info.

Most of those bastages won't allow you to see the number via caller I.D. so I never answer any of those calls.

My friend has caller id and call blocking I believe. The call blocking will make you dial *82 before the number to allow your number to be displayed. If you don't dial that, you just get a recording from the phone company, they never connect you. Annoys the hell out of me somtimes when I have to hang up and redial but I'm sure for them it works great.

File a complaint with the FCC and give them the 8xx number you are asked to call. They can track all that stuff and hit the guy with huge fines.

Oh really? I've had these bastards pestering me. One time they called me five times in a single day. They get around the DNC list, by apparently, not selling anything. It was some research agency. They haven't called in a week or so, but those bastards are annoying.

aaah i have to try that one!

i usually just pick up and say "hello" and hear nothing back, then i know its a telemarketer, and I say it again ... "HELLO!" and i hear a faint voice say "hi is mr.-" then i just hang up.

++ added bonus: phone is busy so it doesn't ring off the hook like it does at our place

Wasting their time by telling them to "Hold on.." and walking away from the phone is the best thing you can do. ..besides getting off the list. If they are still on the phone (and sometimes they are after 5 minutes..) I ask to be taken off the list.

"SEINFELD: (ANSWERING PHONE) Hello.

"(TELEMARKETER): Hi. Would you be interested in switching over to TMI long-distance service?

"SEINFELD: Oh, gee, I can't talk right now. Why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you later?

"(A LONG PAUSE) (TELEMARKETER): Well, I'm sorry. We're not allowed to do that.

"SEINFELD: I guess you don't want people calling you at home.

"(TELEMARKETER): No.

"SEINFELD: Well, now you know how I feel."
