How do I apply thermal grease.....

I'm suposed to apply the grease only to the area where the P4 is going to make contact........how do I tell?

also will the grease dry?.....if so How do I remove the heatsink with out ripping out my p4?
 
You can apply thermal grease and remove thermal grease by shouting at it. Just remember to make the following face when shouting ... :|

Good ones like Arctic silver should not. the cheap'o radio shack stuff might.

Just pull it off...You will not rip out the P4, They are pretty industructible.

Just apply a really small amount of thermal paste on the surface of the heatspreader... like a 2mm by 2mm drop. Then take a knife and spread it over the entire surface like you would butter over bread. Make sure that the thermal paste does not seep over the edge of the heatspreader.

Yeah, shouting always helps, especially if you're having a hardware problem 😉 If you are having problems, then your computer should know it is being bad.
AS3 instructions.
Arctic Silver shouldn't dry ever, and the cheap crap will just get pasty- not damageful to the cpu if you take it off.
