How do I apply Arctic Silver 3?

I bought a ThermalTake Volcano 7 CPU fan and Arctic Silver 3 for my Athlon XP 2000+....was wondering how to apply Arctic Silver...do I put it on like any other thermal paste? Any advice would help! Thanks!

I think I put a little too much AS3 on my XP 1500+... it was idle at 41 degrees celcius before with a thermal pad.. but after applying some AS3.. the idle temp went up 1.5 degrees celcius...

any input on this problem of my would be very much appreciated =)
