I've done this a million times (well, a few dozen to be exact), but can;t seem to find the check-box I added to old Word documents...find the arabic symbol for a box to insert, but I seem to remember a check box I could add that allowed you to go back and enter an 'X' in to the box...any ideas?

Use the "control toolbox" toolbar (View->Toolbars->Control toolbox) and click the "check box" icon

Okay, one more bump..got the check-boxes to appear...figured out how to edit the text...but I can't get them to actually work (i.e. me no can put checky in box)...and ideas on how to get these boxes to work, short of the VBA editor?

Couldn't you use a table and remove the lines around the text items (leaving just the left column "boxes").

Of course, the boxes would be right on top of each other.

Okay I don't quite understand your question
if you want to have a check on the box
Right click on your box area go to properties
Either under Alphabetic or Categorized
there is a Value = False... change that to True
and there will be a check mark in your box

...are you kidding me? These are check-boxes, not boxes that you can check by right-clicking, going to properties, then finding this and that, then changing false to true, then....so you are saying they don't work like they are supposed to?

Abit sent me a form with them before, and I was able to just, ugh, check the boxes with one mouse click, not a dozen...you sure there isn;t a way to 'enable' the clicking?

Are you sure you're not thinking of a .pdf document? Those can be "interactive" and let people check boxes, fill in info, etc. If you are trying to do any "e-document" type stuff I think Adobe Acrobat is a better suited proggie than Word. That said, can you save the Word document as a .pdf?

OOOH... Now I understand what you mean..
This is what you have to do.. before you use the check box.. You HAVE to protect the form before you can start checking the boxes
