how do I activate the infrared port on my dell laptop??

On my inspiron you have to disable the serial port and enable the IR port in the BIOS. I found that out by calling Dell. Of course, that was during the pre-India days of tech support...

geez so much work just to turn the infrared port??

you turn on the IR in the bios for the dell.

It has an option to turn it on or off, I thnk you gotta set a com port for it as well.

Boot your computer and press F2 ~ that's how it was on the Latitude and even my Dimension.
and look around there.
