How do I access the bios on my laptop?

I recently got a Compaq Presario 1800, and I was wondering how I could possibly access the bios. You seen when I first boot up, a Compaq Logo comes up and then the Windows loading screen follows it. I tried pressing delete upon power-up, but that didn't seem to do the trick... anyone have any idea how I can crack this thing into going into the bios?

you may want to try
keep tapping on ESC or F10 when first boots up

mabey F1 or F2, depends on ur laptop

Yeah if its compaq then it's F10. Press it when that little white retangle thingy in the top right hand corner flashes. At least that is what I had to do with my old compaq. Just to let you know there really isn't anything useful in there except maybe disabling the floppy or something.
