Hi
I am primarily a Mac user, but have had a Dell (Dimension 8300 P4 3.0 256 XP PRO) for last few months. I would like to upgrade its memory. Both Apple G5's and the 8300 use PC3200 memory. I have seen many different timings for memory. Crucial, for example sells only CAS 3. Corsair value series was 2.5. Geil value was 2.5 7 4 4 (not enirely sure what this all means). Others vary from OCZ 2 2 3 5 1 to Corsair Xms 3 3 3 8. Some RAM used for Dell lists CAS 3 values. Not really sure if any RAM for Mac has less than CAS 3 either. I would prefer to buy RAM friendly to both machines.
I have absolutely no idea how to even check, much less change these settings-in either PC nor MAC. Therefore, I cannot even begin to figure out how to overclock (or otherwise futz with it). With a MAC, I can figure out and do most anything per hardware and software-but not any of this.
I believe that is done via the BIOS in the PC. I do not know how to "enter" the BIOS to view or test these settings.
Is there some software that I need to use to accomplish this?
Any assistance appreciated.
