how do cold fusion and php compare?

I've been using cold fusion for ages, but I can't ever get over the fact that only super expensive hosts support it and it runs like mollasses. I've been thinking about learning php since just about every hosting shop runs it. how does it compare to cf? can it do as much? more? is it really so much more complicated and low level than cf, or does it just look that way?

I like PHP, it just seems to me the way that web scripting should be done. I can't say much about ColdFusion, but I will say that I haven't seen anything yet that compares to PHP in terms of its versatility and ease of use. I don't find it very complicated at all; it reads very much like other languages, almost like Perl but not quite as complicated and serpentine.

talkfuse runs on coldfusion ... php is pretty straight forward and im thinking about learning coldfusion myself.

IMO PHP is faster than Coldfusion but Coldfusion can handle more of a load and is an easier language to learn.
