I learned the American English in school but I am confused,

how do americans pronounce "Privacy"?

Is it pronounced as: PREEEVACY or PR-EYE-VASY?

i always thought the uk version was more if the 'i' like 'in'.

prih-vacy

whereas we americans say pry-vacy

That's how I've always heard it from Brits. It's pronounced IVE as in give.

As per dapper wolf above, yes colour has a "U". So does favourite and neighbour. Americans are just lazy spellers.

This.
I'm on the phone with people in London on a daily basis and this word comes up all the time (at least a dozen times per call). They pronounce it prih-vacy whereas I pronounce it pry-vacy.

prī-və-sē In case you know how to read dictionary phonetics.
Being they're not teaching phonetics in the schools anymore, maybe not.
They've switched to teaching some kind of fast-food way to read that produces better test results in short-term;but is abysmal in the long run.

Some of the more annoying things about american english are:

sulfur vs. sulphur... seriously? the ph is that hard to pronounce?
aluminum vs aluminium

When I first got to this country I really believed I'd misspelled aluminium all my life and it really was aluminum...

The bottom line is that the English (UK) pronounce words correctly nearly every time. American's do not.

Privacy and Aluminium are two great examples
