I *am* able to connect to my Windows machine from my Macbook over the wireless connection without any problems. But if i use a wired connection, the alias doesn't work. I can't delete it (don't have the appropriate authority to), or figure out how to fix it (just gives me a file browser).

So why is it that i can connect to my network over wireless, but not wired? It's the same network. I can certainly ping all the computers in the network, but when i try to connect to ANY windows machine, i have this problem.

Well, i was able to manually connect using smb://ipaddress

Reminds me of XP network browser and how useless it was. Reading up on this problem, every Machead seems to blame Windows for this problem, but i'm not convinced it's windows fault. I can connect to my Windows machine with my Kubuntu box, as well as the other Windows machines. And like i said, i can connect the Mac to the Windows machine through the wireless network, but not through the wired network.

Aliases work a lot like shortcuts in Windows, what you may want to try it using Symbolic Links. I don't remember how to set them up (sorry) but I am sure that Google can help you out.

SMB browsing really does suck, it's very hit or miss and doesn't work at all across subnets. Is the Windows box using a wifi or wired connection?
