I don't think you can. You want to solder onto the motherboard???

I'm guessing you could use those printer switches...

They sell ISA and PCI ones but I guess the ISA one isn't an option.
They're not too difficult to install, but a switch box would be far more transparent and easily moved to different systems whenever you feel like it.

apoppin - are you using the ISA card for a second printer? I guess the puter knows which printer is connected to which port. I have an A/B switch now I have just not had a chance to buy the cables yet. This seems like a better way to go. How much do these cards cost?

The SIG cards are cheap--$20-30. Get a PCI card, les IRQ problems. If you have a combination printer/scanner device it should go on the the origional port on the MB. An AB switch works most of the time, but it is probably no cheaper (switch + cable cost). If the computer is used for network printing the second port will allow you to select printers from the remote computer, the AB switch will not. R.

Yes the computer "knows." When you set up your printers you have a choice to install to LPT-1 or LPT-2. Get the PCI version. My ISA is an old one (but works great).
