How do 80 year old blind/deaf/cripples end up with $2,000 color laser printers?

I swear to God, the person who sold them this printer should be shot!

He can't hear a word I say, he can't read the settings on the tray, & he can't stand up in front of the printer for very long.

Why can't he stand in front of the printer?

Because he has no kneecaps. He's told me that 3 times now.

He & his equally incapable wife told me that she didn't know what was wrong, but that they wanted someone to come out because "we need to know more about this printer."

What do you want me to do, send someone out to hold your hand? You already had an on-site installation from Staples, you screwed it up. Do you think printers WILL themselves to be set to "Deutsch?"

These people should have bought a $49 Epson inkjet, they have NO business with a corporate level color laser. A set of cartridges alone for this printer cost as much as 15 of those Epson inkjets. Hell, blopens would be better for them.

I got him up and running, but it took 45 minutes to do what should have taken 5.

I need a break now.

If you think that's bad, you should try Dell tech support. I don't work there, but I'm sure there are more 80-year-olds who have Dells than have corporate-level color lasers.

Sounds like a "scam the elderly" ploy to me.

How did they determine they needed this particular printer? Do they in fact need it?

Well, that's what happens when you work for a company who's overall objective is to make $$ through sales of their products.

Blame the staples salesman, not the elderly couple. He saw a chance to make a sale and jumped.

I never minded helping the elderly when I worked tech support. More often than not I'd just drive out to their house and fix the problem for them. I once drove 20 minutes to a couple's house because their email wasn't sending, only to show them they just had to click "send/recieve" (this was before outlook express did that automatically).

It all paid the same, plus I got to get out of the shop and drive around town in my bosses car. Sometimes they'd offer me cookies :)

The elderly are FAR more appreciative than younger people in my experience. We had a lot of elderly customers because we treated them well and word got out at the senior center (I'm not joking, you'd be surprised at how many people heard our name there)

Sell products, yes. But we DON'T try to push too much hardware on people. The target market for this printer is NOT an 80 year old couple.

If they had called in asking for advice on what printer to get I would have told them that this printer was extreme overkill for them.

The Staples tech is the one to blame.

Older couple walk in, I'd say in their 70s/80s. The gentleman wants to buy a color printer. He was looking at this really crappy HP for $100 so I showed him a Canon for the same price and better image quality. He liked it and was discussing it with his wife. She said it was for him so it was his choice. He took the printer and walked off. His wife then asks me if I know about computers and if I could help her with something, but "he" couldn't know or he'd sit at the computer all day and try to figure it out. She told me whe was getting rundll files when she turned on her computer. The easiest solution I could think of was to just go into msconfig and uncheck some of the startup programs. She agreed and we walked off. Next I find her husband (he was a real nice guy by the way) looking at an all in one printer from HP for $100. He was photocopying his credit card to see the quality. He likes it and asks the wife again and she said it was his so if he wanted it, he should get it. He took the printer and thanked me for the help. About 10-15 minutes later, I walk down the isle and see him putting the printer back. He runs up to me and says "If you're smart, you'll NEVER get married" and he walked away...

"How do 80 year old blind/deaf/cripples end up with $2,000 color laser printers?"

The question I have is how do they keep getting their drivers licenses renewed?

I was looking for a happy ending. And try to split up the text into paragraphs, please. :)

It was a funny ending. There was this woman in the aisle looking at paper and she started chuckling when she heard him.

Also, thats a decent sized paragraph...
