How difficult would it be to change the fan...

Anybody ever done this?

After water cooling my system and changing the case fans the loudest component in my computer in the PSU. Its not bad but if I can make it quieter I will. I was just wondering how difficult it would be. It uses a 120mm fan but would I have to splice wires or does it just have a plug. Also anybody know the the CFM rating of the stock fan in the psu?

Thanks

Just found this on the Legit review artice on the Corsair 620W

"The fan specifications state that it produces a maximum airflow of 85.2 CFM at 2200 RPM at 39.1 DBA. With most of today's enthusiast grade power supplies having 120mm or 140mm fans we found that the Adda 120mm fan lived up to our expectations in terms of cooling and noise. That's it for the inside of the power supply! Let's move along and take a look at our test systems and try this power supply out."

The PSU employs an Adda AD1212HB-A71GL fan whose speed is regulated linearly in most of the load range (from 150 to 450W). The PSU is almost silent at low loads (a fan speed of less than 800rpm) and is quiet at high loads. The ADDA fan is voltage controlled by the power supply and only spins up to maximum speed when the HX620W gets hot. The Adda fan is detachable should it be necessary to be replaced and it connects to the power supply via a two pin fan connector.

The fan and thermal sensor are chosen together - you probably won't find another fan that will work with the thermal sensor circuit in that PSU as well as the OEM Adda fan. As was said, you will look long and hard to find PSUs that are quieter than the Seasonics and the Corsairs that are based on them.

I have that PSU, it isn't loud, just a low hum (if that). I can't hear it over my rad fans (which I keep fairly low) and DDC pump. My guess it is something else other than the PSU, unless it is staying revved up for some strange reason.

Im not saying the PSU is loud. Its definitely the quietest PSU I have ever had but compared to all the other components i have, I can hear it over the other fans.
I have 3 low sflex rated at 9dB. 1 medium at 20db. an evercool chipset on my SB. and an antec spot cool on my memory. Along with 3 yate loon mediums on my rad.
I can hear the psu fan over all others. I am very happy with how quiet my computer is now, I was just being a nit picky perfectionist. It will be much better if i ever put the side cover on but I am messing with my rig so much I just leave it off.

What voltage are you running the medium yates at? Reason I ask is I have the same yates on my rad, off a rheobus set to a lower setting usually (around 7V). At full speed they are louder than my HX620W, and at 7V they are still the most audible fans in my case (but not by much).

In my experience the only way to have a truly silent PC is to turn it off ;) :p
