how difficult is it to restring a guitar...

im lefthanded, but decided to get a righthanded guitar, because i figured that i would never be able to play anybody's but my own if i learned lefthanded.

anyhow, i've been playing for a year or so, but am sick of the calluoses on my left hand (from guitar!).

so how difficult (or expensive) is it to restring an acoustic guitar? would i just have to replace the bridge and nut? or is it more complicated than that? this is just a simple cheap fender, so i dont want to spend hundreds of dollars to switch.

Simple as replacing nut and adjusting bridge and doing a setup.

can i just go to a guitar shop and get the parts or is that like a special order from fender?

I'm lefthanded.. my guitar is a right-handed guitar.

That said, I cannot play, but still. The left-handed guitar just didn't feel comfortable when I was looking to buy.

Yeah, you should be able to get parts to do this at any guitar store.

My first time ever changing strings was easy, and it went perfectly. Just find some instructions on google, and follow them. Good luck!

I'm left-handed, but play guitar and bass right-handed. I would stick with playing it right-handed if you've already learned it that way. Why do the callouses bother you that much?

Is changing strings such a big deal for you guys? When I played often, I've changed them at least weekly on my electrics which even often had floating tremolos on them (read: Floyd Rose). I hate even the slightest bit of rust or dust on my strings.

It takes like under 10 minutes.. do you guys not change them very often?

I HATE the feeling of dirty strings.

The OP said he wanted to change from left to right handed strings.

I myself have one of those battery powered string winder gadgets that sucks the string onto the guitar like spaghetti then tunes it automatically. It's my favorite $20 guitar gadget 🙂

I guess time depends on what kind of bridge and nut you have as well as other factors including how picky your ears are to general intonation as well as how chords ring out regardless of how perfectly the 12th fret notes intonate etc.

I purposely intonate my guitars so that as I go higher up the neck, the intonation gets slightly sharper as well as ridiculously high action. Drives every luthier and guitarists crazy when they see my setup hehehe.
