you need an option for ALL OF THE ABOVE.

i mean which method directly linked you to your first real job?

that information really doesn't help you, unless you're asking out of pure curiosity.
it's not like our experiences are going to affect yours in a major way.

I just emailed a promising company that just got press for the first time and e-mailed them. Talked to the guys, asked for work as an intern.

I used to beta test for an online game company, and I got a job offer out of that one.

I also did some volunteer work for an bible college, and used them as a refrence to get a job fixing computers for another college campus.

You might want to try one of those routes to get a job. Nowadays, it really seems to help if you know someone in the business before you ask them for a job.

Luck. I'll tell you how I did it. What you do is you find the job position of what you're looking for. You search the internet and your state for this position title. You find OTHER people's resumes with individual smaller companies that you might not have heard of before. You go to their websites and apply for those positions.

The paper doens't work...too many people applying. I know out of 500 people applying 1 has more skills and qualifications than me, an entry level guy. Monster doesn't work for this exact reason too.

The way I see it, the way to find a job is to find a company that no one, or few people know about and apply for those positions.

I aksed my last boss why she hired me for the internship after a 10 minute phone interview. She said she didn't want to hire someone with tons of experience becuase they'd be bored. She also wanted someone to learn something and who was enthusiastic and who she felt could learn and perform. So, from that, I came to the conclusion that I was just plain lucky:)

Right place at the right time.
