How did you come upon the internet?

Just wondering how everyone here "discovered" the internet and how long you have been actively participating on it. For me it's been around 5 years since I discovered the world of the internet beyond email and research for school. This was mostly as a result of me neffing on a forum of a game I used to play quite a bit. Discuss?

I started using the interweb back in the early 90's. Back when Compuserv, AOL, Prodigy and others were all the rage!

AOL / earthlink CD's. I've had steady internet for about 8-ish years or so. Before then it was random spurts of dial-up / direct connect modem play.

My dad. When my brothers and I turned IIRC 8 or so, he deemed us "old enough" to surf the internet. And we've been on it ever since.

I first used the internet during my first semester in college back in 1997. I didn't use it earlier because my family could not afford a computer.

When my dad brought home a 1200kb modem, and spent 30 minutes downloading a graphic of the Little Mermaid, I was hooked, hoewever long ago that was.

In 1975 I played "StarTrek" on a 64 x 64 grid using a teletype tied to a timeshared mainframe which linked to the old ARPANET with the computer geeks at UCLA

We got prodigy. I used to think the walled garden was the internet. I didn't know any better until later.

Computer at work around 1997, I think. Used it at home to play and research Everquest. It could have been as early as 1996, but I don't remember for sure so I am being conservative.

When I started playing multiplayer games with dial-up. I played on the Zone, which was browser based, so that got me going.
