It was the internet wild west back then...yes. Many unethical thing happened then that would get shut down fast today by mods. And no, I did not participate if you're implying, so take it easy.

I know what the internet was like then...you seem all giddy about it and spoke as if you were part of that.

I could have easily 'carded' ten's of thousands of dollars of merchandise...more than likely never have gotten caught, but you don't do these things because they are not right even if everyone else is.

Heard about Anandtech on Guru3D. The quality of their forums started to take a nosedive so I jumped ship and joined up here.

Was over at Ars Technica for some time before and got very tired of a certain group of wanna-be's and had been told about here so checked it out, the place was like a zoo but I liked it and met some good people so stayed and Anandtech became my home...:D Ventured out here and there but nothing else compared so did all my trading right here... About a year ago I was asked to step up and felt it was time to give something back to the forums...

that's my story and I'm stick'in to it...:p

I admit, this one surprised me. That seems to be a pretty consistent answer, though.

Seems like back in the day, AT had a pretty lively Hot Deals subforum!

It was the hot deals place to be in 2000-2004. Only techies knew about it and the information in the threads were very useful. People sharing good information. Fatwallet, slickdeals and others popped up after a few years and a lot of hot dealers switched to them. Now when you go to those sites there are a bunch of noobs asking the same questions over and over and nobody wants to search for information.

I maintained the information in the rebate contact thread for a long time because so many deals back then had rebates and we had problems getting them.

When I was looking to buy my first computer in early 1999, couple of books I consulted mentioned AnandTech as a worthy source of information. I read only the reviews & hardware forums for a while, then joined...

Decided to build a rig in 04. This was the best place for system guides at the time. Found OT, P&N, & Video sub forums and been here ever since.

Ran into a kid (Anand) that wanted to learn how to OC at TheBrotherhoodOfTheCPU, and it snowballed from there.

I read about anand on some news website in 2002. Lurked for a couple of years in OT [which had L&R as well, so it was fun] and P&N. I then registered in 2004.

I love this site and the moderators do an amazing job.

The most infamous OC of the day, the $80 Celly marching right along with a Pentium 2 (that cost 3X as much...)
