Abraham from the Old Testament tried to fulfil Gods' promise to him and his wife Sarah, that they would have a son, by "helping". He helped out by sleeping with his wife's handmaiden, Haggai. She bore him a son and they called him Ishmael (I think).

But that isn't the way God intended on fulfiliing his promise to provide a son for Abraham and Sarah. Instead, Sarah got pregnant by Abraham when they were both approaching 100 years old. Their biological son was named Isaac.

Isaac was the father of Jacob and Esau. Jacob wrestled with the Angel of The Lord and was renamed Israel. Israel had 12 sons, and thus was born the 12 tribes of Israel. So Abraham became the ultimate grandfather of the Israelites.

But Ishmael and Haggai (Ishmael's mom) moved away from the Israelites and became the Arabs. They've been fighting ever since.

The 'new' war started in 1948 when the UN formed a state (Israel) for Jewish refugees from WWII could go to.

Hmmm...there was a movement among world Jews that there should be a homeland for them.

A Brit agreed with them at some point and they took that as the go-ahead to start making it so in lands taken by the English from the defunct Ottoman Empire after WWI.

In 1948, the Brits pulled out and gave Israel its independence as well.

Between 1948 and 1982 there were 5 wars between Israel and the surrounding Arab states who wanted Israel out.

War became out of fashion (And the Soviet Union was falling to pieces) so in 1987 and 2001, Palestinians took to the streets and to Europe to plead their case

And that's where we are today. In the middle of the second intifadah

Well, I think it rightly begs the question, if the Bible is wrong, how come we (USA, Isamic world, and the Jews) are all still so involved in somethign which was made up?
No proof the Bible is Divine, but it sure was influential.

ummmmm...No Brit ever agreed with it (unless you are reffering to the Balfour Declaration, which everyone knew was a sham). The Israelis knew that the Brits were pulling out, so they geared up for the battle everyone knew was coming. The UN tried to intervene and to avert war, so they proposed the partition plan, which was accepted by the Israelis. The Arabs heard about the partition plan and promptly went to war.

Oops, that was worded wrong. The Brits pulled out and Israel declared and then defended their independence. The "agreeing" I was referring to was the Balfour Declaration

From encarta:

In 1917 The British government issued the Balfour Declaration, which expressed Britain's support for the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine

Truth is, it had started before the British pulled out. In 1929, there was the Hebron massacare, in which 67 Jews were murdered by a rioting arab crowd. The state of Israel hadn't been born yet.

Heres an interesting letter i found. One sided as it is, it makes some points.
