How did Riddick get his eyes shined?

Watched Pitch Black last night. He traded smokes to get his eyes shined, he says it in the movie. He wanted to be able to see people in the dark to prevent getting killed in a windowless prison.

In the game Riddick pays a fat mojo voodoo kinda doctor to stitch up a wound. He does and afterwards he has his eye shine. The doc doesn't give Riddick his eye shine, Riddick has always had it. Suppossedly he's the last of the Furyons and I guess all Furyons have eye shine. Then he starts to hear the voice in his head telling him who he really is and blah blah etc. Its not all made super clear in the game, but that's the general gist of it.
