Sometimes this forum definitely delves into some pretty asinine commentary, but I don't know that I'm aware of a forum that's anywhere near this active with a user base with generally above-average intelligence that discusses as many random topics as ATOT.

I was thinking about it though, and I don't really have any idea how I actually got here in the first place. My best guess is that my first post was asking for some kind of computer building advice when I was putting together a PC for the first time like a decade ago.

How did the rest of you discover this place? Just checking it out from the main Anandtech site or something different?
 
joined the forums to ask for advice on my first build back in 2001. Decided to browse the sub forums while waiting for an answer to my post in GH. ATOT sucked me in!

I was probably looking for some kind of help, liked what I saw, and stayed. From 2004-2009 I only went in the technical forums, and never even read OT. I started coming here, liked it well enough, and here I am.
 
Back in college a friend showed me the "Free stuff/hot deals" forums and I was a lurker for a while until I finally decided to ask for some tech advise. Stayed a lurker until last year.
 
Started hanging out in Video looking for a card, then it went to shit and I never went back. Ended up in OT at some point along the way and my soul departed shortly thereafter.

I've got the geekiest answer so far: Someone I used to MUD with pointed me here for tech advice. 😛
 
I was building a PC and having issues with a RAID controller. Forget exactly but I think there was a conflict with my Creative sound card.
 
Back in early 1999, I was deciding on what parts to choose for my first, custom-built, computer and the book I was reading referenced AnandTech.

I just don't remember how I found this place. I remember a certain monitor being priced well below "cost" and it being a hot deal about 14/15 years ago. I honestly don't remember how I found this place....I'm assuming a yahoo search.

Was searching around the internets looking for quality reviews on components (there werent many back then) and found Anandtech. This was just after high school.
Read most of the articles and was impressed by how thorough he was compared to other so-called professionals.
Eventually found the forums and lurked there for a while. One day I saw a dude with a question about TOS-link vs. Mini-plug and no one could help him. I knew about this problem from having figured it out myself earlier that year. Signed up just to help him out.

Tried finding that original thread but think it must have got deleted a while ago (accidentally or deliberately). Stayed out of the social area cuz I didnt have much time to post.
Dad died in October and after the funeral I started feeling a little lonely. Lurked OT for a bit. Now its the only place I really post a lot.
