How did I do with cabling?

I built the pc in early july. Took me about 4 hours to get everything in and get the cables the way they are now. It wasn't pleasant, especially since I found out the hard way that my seasonic psu was not a good option for the p180 (notice the extension cables). Anyway, just wondering if you guys think I should work on it some more. The only thing that bothers me is that the front fan is blocked by a lot of cables (damn you creative for using a flat ribbon cable instead of rounded one).

fyi - it's a asus sli premium

It ain't the best cabling job, but by no means is it that bad either. As long as you got most of your cables away from the fans/cards/mobo, it's fine in my opinion.

Of course if you get a windowed panel, then you might have more incentive to clean it up more. But it really takes a lot of effort and creativity to get it REALLY nice.

ur setup is like mine but mines a tad bit neater because I used the bottom compartment for the harddrives instead of the upper. I just used the upper compartment for my one IDE HDD since I didnt wanna feed too much fat cables down to the lower compartment. Ran into the same problem as you wth my seasonic PSU and ASUS a8n sli mobo. Did you make the extension for the 12v urself? Atm I just ran my 12v under my video card then up to the connector.

You have a very nice rig, and although you have no window, if you are anything like me (or Dynamix), meticulous, you care about the neatness of the wiring job. They make this>>http://www.zeusinc.com/convoluted_tubing.asp which would improve the appearance threefold IMO. Easier than sleeving the psu, although that would look the best imo. I got the tubing at Fry's, its JT&T Flexguard Convoluted tubing and was cheap cheap. If you google it, you should be able to get it online. Its very easy to work with. Mrvile used it in his rig....you can look for the post about his watercooling setup in his Lian Li. Lots of pics. You liking those Nexus's?

Not bad.

Nice case. For the time you've invested I'd say, very good job.

Sometimes perfect is the enemy of good!

Where did you get the extension cable for the 4 pin power supply? I am hoping my PC Power & Cooling 4 pin power supply cable will be long enough.

Let me know how that works out. I have the P180 and PC P&C lined up for my new rig. Wondering how it will turn out

Nice, but if that cold cathode wiring is bugging you, I'd take it apart and sleeve it. It would help a lot in the look, considering that is the only wire you can see (in that pic). I'm pretty sure it's hiding when the panel is on though.
Tas.

Let me know how the noise is with it too. Some people told me they could hear it a little bit... others told me they couldn't hear a thing. Thanks

It is long enough to reach the top left corner of your mobo if this is where your mobo's 4 pin is located, but not long enough to hide it underneath the mobo w/o an extension. With an extension though, it will work underneath because the 4 pin cable is just long enough to crest the top of the mobo leaving the connector exposed. Atleast it is in my case (A8V dlx / pcp&c / P180).

The noise will be relative to the user, but I will tell you that the pcp&c psu's are loud. Their newer Delta fans and new fan controller ramp better than the 2004 models (Nidec fans), but under loads, if you treasure silence, be prepared. Its such an easy mod to exchange the fan and well worth it. Especially in the P180 where your psu, with the help of the centrally mounted lower chamber 120mm, is mounted on the bottem, it runs much cooler compared to the normal top mount style cases. Therefore a low rpm 80mm fan exchange will not risk overheating the psu. The pcp&c's are rated and spec'd at 50C unlike most, if not all, psu manufacturers. They are "industrial" grade and worth every $ imo.

Exchanging the fan? What do you mean? Tell me more about this mod 😛

I got mine today, spent 3 hours installing things. I put the big wide 120mm on the back so I could put the smaller 120mm in front of the HDDs. I figured an intake fan would help more than cool the PSU. But my temps are the same as my old case.

And my old case was a Raidmax all Aluminum cheapo thing. It had an 80mm on the sidepanel. That's it. The 60mm on the back stopped functioning as well as the panel on the MB side off. And I got the same temps with that as I do with a p180 with 3 120s. WTF! Maybe I didn't turn the 120mm intake the right way? I kind of feel a breeze on the front vent, but I turned it from what it was on the back side.

My fan controller comes tomorrow as well as a 80mm for the VGA vent. Right now the big 120mm is on high, the smaller ones are at medium. 38/54 are the readings btw, ambient is 90.

Just a simple swap of the fan. Get an 80mm low rpm/cfm fan such as this>http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/sidewindercomputers/pa80br.html
and switch the stock fan with it. As far as I know this voids the warranty, but an Anand member stated that pcp&c will cover a fan swap under their 5 yr warranty program. IDK if this is true. Anyhow, if you decide to do this, PM me and I can take you through it. I only recommend this low cfm fan swap of the pcp&c units if you have a seperate chamber that houses the psu as the P180 does.

Welcome SKluck 🙂 Depending on your components and room temps, different fan configurations yield different results. I will tell you what got me the best temp/noise ratios. I axed the duct. Rear exhaust 120x25 tricool 7V'd and set on med which gives me approx 1000 rpm. Front upper chamber 120x25 intake ADDA fan @ 900rpm controlled w/ SpeedFan. Top vent blocked. Bottem chamber CM fan w/ resistor @ 900rpm. HSF 120x25 ADDA @ 900rpm controlled w/ SpeedFan. I know its a PITA, but try ALL the possible fan config's and see what suits you best. Many peoples are getting good results with the top fan blowing in. On the Tricools are 2 little arrows on one side of the fan casing. They tell you the rotation direction and the direction they blow. If your room temp is 90F, then lower temps are near impossible with air.

Sounds good. Here's the rig I have lined up to buy:

P180 /w window
MSI Neo4 Plat
(2) Samsung 160Gb SpinMasters
(2) eVGA 7800GTX's
PC P&C SLI 510W
OCZ 2x1GB Platinum Ram (2-3-2-5)
AMD X2 4400+ @ 4800+ speeds
Swiftech MCX6400-V /w 80mm Panaflo
Plextor PX-716SA
Nexus case fans

I'm waiting for the price to drop a little bit on the videocards and I'm still not sure about the X2. Everyone seems to be having problems with games, so I might consider the FX-57. What would you think? It will basically be used for games/video editing/web browsing, not much else.

Rig looks nice. lol I have that HS. Reason I laugh is because I see so very few people who own it. It is soooo heavy and while it is a very nice HS, the XP120 beats it handily. My XP120 cools better, is much lighter, cheaper, and the kicker...with the 120mm on top a great deal quieter than I could achieve w/ the mx6400. Don't get me wrong though, the Swiftech 6400 is a great aircooler. The issue w/ the XP120 is mobo compat. Need to check TR's website to see if it is compatible w/ your future mobo. As far as your cpu choice, from what I have read and researched, I would choose the X2 anyday over a single core Athlon, but thats just me. Looks like a kickin system to me and with a psu fan mod, those Nexus case fans, you opting for the XP120 instead of the Swifty, all encased in the P180 ....you will have an extremely quiet, extremely fast rig. Good stuff 🙂

haha. that's weird... I had the Swiftech and the XP-120 in the folder for what I was going to buy. I talked with a few people on here and they said they get amazing temps for an air cooler with the Swiftech and a 80mm fan on it. So I was going to go with the Swiftech, but now... 😕

You can get great temps with the Swifty, but at the cost of noise. I saw your rig (P180/Nexus) and it looked to me like you were after silence so thats why I suggested the XP120. Essentially you can get both of those HS's to compete equally, but the 6400 will be much noisier (80mm or with the adaptors a 92mm) than the Xp120 (120mm low rpm'r) at the same temps. Plus the XP120 has that added benefit of cooling the components (NB and mosfets) around the cpu socket. Last I saw the Xp120 was a bit cheaper than the Swifty, although w/ your rig it does not look like your on much of a budget. 😉

The XP-120 can have a fan on it? I looked at it and didn't see anywhere where a fan would mount. The XP-120 is $70 on newegg :Q The 6400 was about $50 I think. But money is no issue when you have rich parents and family members and the graduation money starts pouring in 😀 I will probably get the XP-120 if a fan can mount on it...

Actually they are the same price at Jab. When I bought the 6400 a year ago it was 64$ 🙁
EDIT ::: The SI 120 is the same price and is supposed to perform a little better than the XP120 and is more compatible w/ most, if not all, mobo's 🙂
