How did Hennessey become so racially divided

I'm a bartender and I have literally never sold Hennessey to another ethnic group than blacks, and they love the stuff (definitely liquor of choice). How does a liquor become divided racially? It doesn't make sense.

Does it have to do with racism (admitted or not) where whites/asians/hispanics/eskimos not drink it to distance themselves from blacks, and the blacks find comfort in having a liquor that is "theirs". Something to do with genetics and tastes buds and such? Marketing targeting a specific ethnic group (ala Sprite)?

😕

Marketing
I used to work for them, that's a huge market with a lot of potential new customers and untapped $$$ share (they have a group marketing targetting specifically african americans, asians, hispanics)

notice how many rap songs mention cognac brands, hennessy, couvoissier (sp)
notice how they have john leguizamo ads in predominantly hispanic areas.

edit: by the way maybe its just your location where its mostly blacks, but asians and hispanics are big on cognac as well

i would bet $22 that if chabillionaire came out with a song about how he drinks brandy old fassions and gets hoez riddin' on 29s that every black man in the united states would start drinking brandy old fassions

It's called Marketing, brutha. It's just like 40's with da brutha.

Ever watch a rap video? The good life for a brutha is South Central LA is a bottle of Hennessey and 4 white girls.

Well I thought this was gona be about a twin turbo viper.

Lingenfelter >> Hennessey 😉

No argument there. Ligenfelter was never called crook so he automatically wins, though Hennesey is still alive. 😉

Oops, it's XO. one of those cognac

yeah
Hennessy VS, VSOP, XO, then there are the rapper class - paradis, and higher class no one can afford crap up there.

they're all Cognac

i think other brands have similar naming scheme at the lower VS-XO end

Yeah why do all the white people drink Grey Goose, while all the blacks, asians and everyone else are drinking Ketel One or Effen?

Im pretty sure you are right about the naming schemes. For hennessy and martell i have seen the vs/vsop/xo level bottles.

I am not sure what you are talking about. I don't find any racial divides with vodka or tequila or gin for that matter.

Nor have I.

i had some henny and hypno before going out one night back in college. When i got in the bar I was asked to leave (read: kicked out) after about 4 minutes and 30 seconds literally. I don't remember the rest of the evening but I do know my partner in crime was running town with his shirt off for hours on end.

I will not drink that stuff again.

I like Hennessey. I ordered it once with some friends at a bar once, and offered it to some of them. Some of them refused (mostly because they don't drink hard liquor), another one said he wasn't black. 😕 It definitely isn't a bad liquor. I never understood the marketting reasons for that either.

Every black man in the US? 😕 I think you've slightly over-estimated the reach and cultural appeal of popular rap "music."

Perhaps you meant to say something like, "every sheep-minded pube who listens to and obeys the lyrics of pop music, especially the 12-17 year old suburban white kids" ?
