How did they lose out in this very important marketing strategy to Apple?

for AOL to have come up with something like an IPod and Music Store would have been HUGE for them.

amazing.

I'm thinking they already have a deal... remember, AOL is owned by Time Warner, and it's a big company.

Either that, or they realized their customer base would have no clue. :p

They have their hands in so many places AOL is still profiting off of this somehow. That is, the AOL Time Warner monolith is.

AOL made deals with iTunes, MusicNet and XM to provide music to their members. They are making money by merely providing simplified access to other people's products. Zero overhead and all profit.

Sounds like they are doing just fine.

Absolutely. I cant believe the people that think their internet is down because they load up internet explorer and see the MSN homepage. Or dont even know what internet explorer is in the first place.

Customer: What do I do with this??
Me: Its the internet, just do a search, or click on something that interests you, or go to the address bar and go to any other site you want
Customer: Whats the address bar?
Me: Did you used to use AOL?
Customer: Yea

Well, that explains things.

I had one person get mad at me because they were convinced I was lying and there must be some other software they need to get the internet to work.

That's an insult to Buick.
Buick at least had the GN in the 80s. Sure it's been 20 years since they've had anything really cool ... but at least they did have something cool in their history...
