How desktop computer connect via wireless

I understand a laptop could connect wirelessly by using a router and its has a network card preinstall. But how could you connect wireless with a desktop computer?

Laughingman12, if your Wireless Router has a special capacity. Like Linksys GS, Buffalo 125, D-Link SuprG, you should buy a same brand-matching card.
