I had an opportunity to go to DC tomorrow night for the fireworks with some friends... so my question is to anyone that has gone before, or is from the DC area... is it a really stupid/dangerous idea to go? My mom and her paranoia swears she heard it's just a bunch of bumbling drunkards running around... probably right, but anyways... worth the trip to go or not? we were planning on parking out and taking the metro in to the city... any suggestions would be cool... thanks

I went a couple years ago. It was psychonuts.

Still fun though. Definitely park as far away as you can and take the Metro.

i live in dc

i was in the city tonight, and i'm going in tomorrow night

it's great on the 4th. head out to the capitol to see bands, and then the mall for the fireworks

metro is the only way to go to get into the city...but be prepared to wait to get out. last year it took us almost an hour just to get INTO the stations

security is EVERYWHERE...so there's really no fear of terrorism or anything...practically the whole mall area is a security zone and they check EVERYONE going in. pretty well done

definitely not to be missed

yeah.. just make sure you have something to do, or somewhere to go hang out for a bit after the fireworks.. it's not too bad, just takes forever to leave.

one year my husband was working in a high rise in rosslyn, we went and watched them from the windows.. that was the best..

the closer u r to the washington monument, the longer it'll take to get out of the area.

a few years ago (b4 9/11) a friend was very close to the monument, and had a blast w/close up oif the fireworks. but she waited 3 hrs just to get out of the area. now w/tougher security, i dont know if it's worth it
