how crappy is USPS priority mail tracking?

so far, usps priority mail has been pretty good at actually delivering my packages. but i get kinda peeved at their tracking. i pay and extra $.40 for delivery confirmation... and also what i assume to be some sort of tracking method, but i'd say about 20% of the time, i can't track the package (it says its not in the system), or the package shows up in their system after i, or the recipient, recieves the package. sometimes when i give the DC# to someone, and they try to track it, but it says it's not in the system, it makes me looks sorta shotty. then when someone else gives me a DC# and it says it's not in the system, i get worried, thinking "am i getting ripped off, or is this the typical USPS crappy excuse for tracking?". :disgust:

it isn't TRACKING , its only a system to say that the package might have been scanned about the time they left it somewhere

don't rely on it for jack sh!t

only use USPS for cheap stuff and get insurance on the stuff over $20 (or whatever your threashhold of pain is)

and use the online label printing for when you do use DC so that you save the $0.40, its free if you print your own label and since it sucks, you shouldn't pay for it ;)

last time i checked it wasn't designed for tracking, just for when the customer receives it?

All of my DC packages are tracked pretty good...definitely worth the price to be able to see the last time they handled my package ;)

[Edit] Oops, accidentally voted yes instead of no...please adjust your opinions accordingly ;)

but check this out... everytime i go to the post office to mail stuff out, the clerks always hand me back the DC# slip and tell me "you can track this package online through our website... yadda yadda yadda..." and even if it isn't for tracking alone, shouldn't it be in the system once the clerk scans it in front of you? ir would at least be more reassuring to see that a package i have sent out, or am expecting, is actually on it's way. when it says "not in system", i'm just like WTF?!?!

The Delivery Confirmation system is not a true tracking system. Yes, you can "track" the delivery status, but the system doesn't have the capabilities of a Fed-Ex or UPS system.
