There will be a second wave for sure. The purpose of the shutdown was to minimize the impact of the first wave. IE don't overload the hospital system, and hopefully slow the disease down for a bit so we can stock up on medical supplies. The second wave will be smaller so hopefully we can manage it while staying partially or mostly open.

Look, people are getting more sophisticated about how pandemics work, this one in particular. Things are getting very nuanced. At first it was just go home, stay home as much as you can. If you're not essential, you are not going to work, etc. It's not that simple now as we're trying to keep the economy alive AND AT THE SAME TIME quell the pandemic.

You have no idea what would happen if we just said fuck it, everybody do what the fuck they want, ignore this thing. Get sick or don't die or don't die. That might work for you, but you are just one turd on the grass, man.

And Sweden didn't tell everyone to just go about their day - they did urge people to stay in. The only difference is they didn't force closures. As a result of their inaction, they have pretty terrible numbers.

Now back over here when you proclaim "open everything" - what exactly do you think will happen? It's only phase 1 of reopening and already we see stories of people standing shoulder to shoulder in bars. Not only selfish but truly imbecilic.
