wow! 1Mb UP! What kind of service are you using? DSL or Cable? Home or Buisness Class connection.
Jack is right.
dsl webserver is a great place to learn how to setup your home web/ftp/mail server. I started there with little (read no) networking experience. In a little over a month (due to work & school schedule), I have 4 websites running across my cable connection with very little downtime (about 99.8% uptime).
I would add that you may wish to setup a secondary PC for a server (with router) for security issues. My sites run on a PII-400 w/512MB-RAM without any problems using Win2k server, mailenable pro, and Helix Streaming server.
win2k server offers terminal services that you can use locally, as well as over the www to login to your server if you have problems or just want to check in / perform maintenance, I'm not sure about winXP.
Good luck on your project.
