How could i hook up the Onkyo TX-SR601 to my computer?

so that i can play the songs on my computer, and then have them output to the receiver and then out to my speakers?

Get a 1/8" mini stereo jack to dual RCA cable.

Connect the headphone side to the line out of your soundcard and the 2 RCAs to one of the inputs on the receiver.

Either through digital out on soundcard to digital in on reciever, or from analoge out to 5.1 in (this will take 3 wires one for front stereo, one for rear stereo and one for sub/centre).

Just for fun a couple of years ago I tried this on my iMac; outputting iTunes to my HT. Didn't work out so well, likely thanks to the lack of good quality sound on the iMac.

I do this on my laptop and plug it into my home theater system. I've got it running across my floor right now. I can't imagine your iMac having worse sound than my laptop. It does sound like crap when no music is playing though...I can hear hissing and extra noise from my computer.
