How could I do this?

I want to get all of my .mpeg's and .avi's onto a VHS tape. I have my Radeon 9700 that will put the video out into the TV but what about sound? I have a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 XGamer which I don't believe has a line out. Any ideas? I don't want to make a VCD because this is for my parents and they don't have a DVD player in their room. This is supposed to have all my stand-up comedian shows on it.

i think your xgamer should have a line out, if not you can just use the front spkr out into the 2 rca inputs on your vcr (using 2 phono to minijack cable)

Live 5.1 X-gamer has a line out - use a miniplug -> red & white RCA into your VCR. That should do it.

Get a line-out cable from your sound card to the inputs on your TV/VCR (it'll have an 1/8" line out jack on one end and an RCA audio plug on the other (red/white). It's how I make mix tapes from my mp3s. If you connect those along with the video-out you should be fine.

You do stand up? I wanna see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your 9700 should have an S-video out. If not, go get a 4600. j/k 😛

But seriously, is the video out on your card s-video or just the video portion of component? If it's s-video you don't have to worry about sound, because it is incorporated into the cable.

Heh, not me, I have a lot of George Carlin that I want to put on a VHS tape. Thanks a lot for the link though. Very, very helpful. I'm going to go buy it now!

No problem - I originally bought the wrong one (I got a 1/8" to 1/8", and it didn't fit), but when I got the right one, it works great. Now I can listen to my mp3s in the car on tape!

Umm... I thought s-video is video-only... no audio.

Yeah, it doesn't have audio, only video but I solved the problem with that Y-link cable. 🙂
