I installed win2000 on my computer and now I want to install the second OS win98. But since I install win2k in C: disk and I have convert it to NTFS when I installed win2k I could not install win98 now. So I want to convert it back to FAT32 so that I could install win98. I am using Partition Magic 6.01 but after I select #operation --> covert to FAT32 the lable of my C disk changed to FAT32 immediately and I click apply the opeation I was asked to restart computer. After the restart nothing has been changed I still have NTFS in my C disk when you see it in Partion Magic. What maybe wrong? Thanks.

#1 Unless you use a 3rd party boot program you wont beable to install Win98 AFTER Win2K it will override Win2Ks boot menu, you need to install Win98 then Win2K.

#2 You cant go from NTFS to FAT32 unless you use something like Partition Magic which will do it. It should after reboot start to covert it from NTFS to FAT32... if it isnt Im not sure whats wrong. (Ill never trust Partition Magic to mess with my partitions)

uhh...

first of all 98 *should* be installed first...

98 will not see fat32 partitions.

win98 and 2k must be on different partitions (some have gotten away without doing this, NOT recommended and you will know why once you start installing a bunch of progs.

IMO, you should have a partition that hosts only win2k, one for win98 only, and then one each for their programs. (so about 4...)
edit: YOU CAN (supposedly, i havent done this) install win2k, install 98 on different partition, and then load win2k cd and chose repair option.

I have heard this methods before, but question is with the c disk as NTFS format I could not install win98. The setup could not continue because it won't detect an active and bootalbe disk. I want to reinstall all of them. But I could not convert the NTFS back to FAT32. Do you think if I boot with win98 boot disk and use the command "format" to format my C disk, I could format it to FAT32 from NTFS I am afraid it won't work. What should I do?

Thanks.

a format is a format is a format...if you boot from the CD, you can format to anything you want..just pop in the win2k cd, delete the partitions, and there you go.

Hmm, Windows98 should and will, most definately, see FAT32 partitions.

Yup, Win98 first then Win2k

if you installed win98 an dthen dual booted with 2k from the same fat 32 partition, would there be a big proformence hit under 2k because of fat32?

While it may be possible to dual boot win2k and win98 from the same partition, I would recommend seperate partitions for each OS and at least another seperate partition for apps and storage, you'll be glad you did when it come to reinstalling an OS, or troubleshooting.
