How about a slot either in the dash or in the console depending on the car and interior.
Here's how it would work. You get in, slide open the lockable access hatch, insert your ipod and close the hatch. The hatch can be locked and the main key (not the valet key, for example) would open it.
Depending on your stereo system you would either control the ipod functions from your head unit or the steering wheel/visor controls! All in while your ipod sits secure and locked and stays fully charged. That would rock.
In the near future when cars have integrated 3G broadband, itunes mobile will allow you to download new music on the go.
No more squelchy FM transmitters, dangling cords, or funny suction cup things that look like a broken spacecraft idea from the 60's. 😉
