how cool was billy idol

Billy Idol was a mainstay of the MTV onslaught back when MTV was relevant and actually cool. Because of this he was on the radio and was someone you heard almost daily, hit after hit, to the point that I never actually bought any of his music. A few years ago I acquired a nice greatest hits compilation and after listening to it I realized that Billy Idol not only had a ton of hits he was a damn good artist that I had unfortunately overlooked in my personal collection.
