How cool should my cpu's be? where would they work best?

A common room is around 22degrees celsius. when does the cpu's start to mess up? the temp in the studio is pretty high, like 28degrees cel. and with 2 10000rpm's ultrastar disks, and one 7500rpm's 60gxp
it would get pretty hot inside the machine... i'm trying to figure out somekind of alternative cooling system, besides the 3 chassis fan and the two cpu fans and the psu fan. they are just blowing hot air out of the box to suck it back in... question, above 0 degrees C.
what would be the ideal working temp?

You will need some kind of temperature monitor active on your desktop...I suggest Motherboard Monitor (MBM) which is downloadable at TweakFiles. You should also install a software CPU cooler like Rain, Waterfall or my preference, WinCooler. You can get one of these from Tweakfiles as well.

At idle, your CPU should stay below 40C, and ideally below 30C. With a full load, your CPU should stay below 50C, and ideally below 40C. Your case temperature should remain a little cooler than those figures. Electronic components tend to get "upset" at about 120F (49C) and their life diminishes quickly under stress/heat. I have the 60GXP as well, but it doesn't get hot to the touch. The Ultrastar disks, however, will put out some heat.

The easiest and cheapest way to cool a box is to remove the cover. If your store your PC in a location where it can't get kicked/damaged, you should be OK. My CPU and case temps went down about 6C by removing the cover.

COOL man :) well, because of the room temp. i mean it's hot! i think i would need to use somekind of water/oil cooling system, the cpu's (smp system) are under constant heavy loads working in Nuendo (highend audio suite, multitrack recording) so software based cooling techniqs would help to much i think... the thing about the cover is a good idea, and it's possible, when i get my quiet-box, to have all those disks and fans making noise in a controll room is stupid, but i havn't got it yet, so i'll leave the cover on (takes out about 40db) but if you have heard of anything like advanced cooling? cause at the moment i think my cpu's are well over 40degree C all of the time...
BTW- it doesn't have to be cheap

On the question of ideal working temp, the cooler the better I think, no matter how cold. There some reverse cycle air con. coolers that get the cpu down to -20dC and less! If you want more info on it here's the article on the Asetek VapoChill in Tom's Hardware. It's one damn cool box. ;)

-20 degrees C ???

As in below 0?

Or as in "sub 20 region".

I've yet to see a CPU running below freezing temperature ... :)
