How cool does your Northbridge need to be?

I have an ECS nForce4-A754 mobo running an Athlon 64 3000.

The mobo came with a noisy as hell northbridge fan, so I bought this one to replace it. It's great that it's silent, but it gets really hot (too hot to touch).

Is it OK that I leave it like this? Or should I find a way to establish more airflow?

Is there a program I could use to monitor NB temps?

It's hot to the touch? I would have gone for the XP-90 look alike by Thermalright. It's 100% copper heatsinkage for your NB! And, it can mount a 600mm (right?) fan.

A 600mm fan? That's one big mofo. 🙂
I believe it supports a 60mm fan though I'm unsure.

Yea yea yea ... it's a type. And it's actually a 45mm =)

I'm not usually happy until the NB is at -459 degrees Fahrenheit.

at 0 Kelvin...electricity would not conduct...

but anyway, i'm never satisfied with the stock NB cooling. it's always insanely loud and cools like crap. grab a zalman silent NB HSF or something of the like.

We could run at a little higher then. 😛

I've got one of those passive blue Zalman's with a super little 25mm (might be 20mm) fan attached to the side, moves probably less than 2cfm but its more than enough to keep it cool.
