How common is train derailment?

Crono

Lifer
I was expecting to get a delivery today (an ATT Tilt from someone in FS/FT, if anyone is curious) but apparently the train was derailed and consequently delayed. I think I recall someone posting a similar experience here in ATOT. Is derailment a common occurrence, or is that just a stock UPS response that someone put?

Sounds like someone wasn't into oral.

Sounds like someone didn't want you to receive.

I grew up a few blocks away from a railroad track. A train derailed at least once every two years. The most recent one, which was about a year ago, took out two houses. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but one family's dog died.

I've seen probably 10 derailments happen by my house. I spent bout 18 years in that location.

I've lived near a railroad for 19+ years and I've never heard of that happening around here..
Guess you guys have some crooked ass tracks or something...

Considering the sheer amount of rail traffic there is on a daily basis, I would have to say extremely rare.

You were the third post. 😕

The OP wasn't funny...so...you must have thought the second post was hilarious.

Happened to me about a year ago. I'm probably the poster you are referring to. My package was a few days late, but in fine condition. I think "delayed to train derailment" probably means a train somewhere along the path derailed, delaying every train using that track.

interesting. The General Mills plant (with a Betty Crocker plant... and Pillsbury, still General Mills but they closed the Big G cereal plant to make room for new Pillsbury production since G acquired Pillsbury) by my house in Toledo has trains running by my neighborhood all the time, with a decent size rail yard about 5 minutes from my house... and I've never heard of a derailment as long as I've been paying attention. Unless they don't advertise them, but at least I know the two tracks that run by my neighborhood no derailments have happened recently, as I'm sure my house would have felt quite a rumble since we feel and hear the trains running during regular operation.. those things falling would surely register as out of the ordinary.

OMG My AT&T Tilt was on the same train... probably from the same seller on AT .

I wonder if it will get to the facility here on Saturday since it left NJ already. If it does, do you think they'll let me pick it up?

yea, after the houses got nailed, the entire path, about 1/4 long, which went around an embankment, was all rebuilt.

Oh, so you're the person who bought the second one (if I had the money, I would get the 3rd one - awesome price). It probably will get to the facility on Saturday, and I'm fairly certain they will let you pick it up if you have a photo ID on you. At least that's what they allow you to do if no one is there when they attempt a delivery... I've never tried to pick up an item when delivery was delayed.

Yeah, I like levels of convenience and today my phone pissed me off even more so I'm glad I bought it. I found out that the way Cingular+Motorola set up the AIM client on my phone (Motorola L2), it will use SMS instead of data.... If I only knew that before I used it and now I have 150 text messages and since I rarely text, I don't have a plan. For anyone that doesn't know the price, that's about $20 worth of texts. The same cost in data would be around $1-2. Aikouka = Pwned.

Let's hope they let me get it... I love technology and hate waiting on it =P. I think we might be able to since it's a normal delivery and not something from a large vendor.
